Aquamarine swivel ring

Aquamarine oval cabochon 13mm x11mm. Swivel ring (through 180 degrees). Subtly hammered 2mm silver band. This is a version of an ancient style, the swivel ring, of which there are Egyptian, Greek and Roman examples.

A prolific design was the scarab beetle carved in a gemstone such as turquoise. The beetle was thought to symbolise immortality.
